Stain Remover Bar
When we started making our By the Sea Soap Shoppe "Stain Remover Bar", it was like Memory Lane for some. "Oh, is this like the Sunlight Bar?" we'd be asked. And we'd shrug, "Don't know." We'd never heard of the Sunlight bar.
Apparently it was sold here in the past, but hasn't been for quite a long time. So now they try out our Stain Remover Bar and they love it.
Because it really does get stains out.
"Does it get grease out?" "Yes!" "Does it get oil out"? "Yes!" And the answer is "Yes!" to spaghetti sauce on white table cloths at a community centre. "Yes!" to black marks from hockey pucks on hockey pants. "Yes!" to getting the Island red dirt red out of baseball pants. "Yes!" to removing coffee stains.
How does it work? It's the magic of coconut oil. That's it. Our stain remover bar is 100% coconut oil (with a little lemongrass essential oil just to give it a nice scent).
If you made hand or face soap with 100% coconut oil, it would definitely clean your skin as well. But it would also dry it out, I think, a lot. No one makes body or face soap with 100% coconut oil.
But for stains on clothes? Try it for yourself! It comes highly recommended by our customers who come back for more and more and more..

Please note that because this soap is handmade, the appearance of the soap may not be exactly as shown.
Lye
Some of you might be wondering, "Lye? Isn’t lye dangerous? Won’t it harm my skin?”
First - all actual soap is made with lye. No lye, no soap. (A lot of "soap products" in the stores are actually detergent. If you look at the labels, they are not called "soap". They are called "hand wash" or "body cleanser" or some such thing.)
This could become a chemistry lesson, but to make it short - soap is made from lye, fats and liquid. When the lye mixes with the fats and liquid, some kind of chemical reaction goes on, and the lye and fats change into soap and glycerin. In the process, the lye is all used up. Even though lye is used to make the soap, there is no lye left in the soap at all.
This is why soap made with lye is not dangerous, and it definitely won’t hurt your skin.
Let's talk about Titanium Dioxide - I mean, that sounds like some kind of weird chemical, doesn't it?
Titanium Dioxide is a type of metal oxide. Metal oxides make up most of the earth's crust and are formed with metals react with oxygen from the air or water.
It's a natural substance. And it also happens to make whiter soap.
